Boat Hire

 

If you hire a boat, you can boat into Fowey from the Sawmills

outer pontoon at all times as this pontoon does not dry out.

– long and short term boat hire is available from Fowey River Boat Hire. They will also deliver the hire boats straight to you at the Sawmills.

River trips, canoeing and kayaking

Should you not wish to hire your own boat, river trips, cruises and fishing outings can all be arranged from Fowey, as well as canoe and kayak expeditions which can be arranged from Golant with encountercornwall.com

Eating Out

You are spoilt for choice when eating out, Fowey has a wealth of Restaurants, bistros and tearooms as well as several pubs, all offering food. Even closer to the Sawmills, Golant has the Fishermans Arms, serving decent pub food with lots of seating outside to enjoy the river view. Also in Golant the rosetted Cormorant hotel.

Shops and supermarket deliveries

All the major supermarkets will deliver to the village, if required please arrange with Ruth as she will arrange delivery to her home address in the village and boat in for you.Tesco Asda Morrisons and Sainsburys are a 20 minute drive away. Fowey has butchers, bakeries, deli and small general store.Please do note that there is a pub hotel and gallery in Golant but no grocery shop.

Beaches

There are some Superb beaches and coves in the vicinity. Readymoney Cove in Fowey is perfect for children, with a sandy beach, swimming platform and loads of rockpools.. Polkerris is also great for families, just a ten minute drive from Golant, it has a shop, pub, and one of the best restaurants in the area, all on the beach. Many more secluded beaches like Coombe and Lantic bay can be discovered by walking the cliffs from Fowey or Polruan.

Or try surfing at one of the fantastic surfing beaches along the north coast, where boards and suits can be hired and surf lessons given. For a slightly less energetic day out You’ll find plenty of Fascinating Historic country houses in the county, including the splendid Lanhydrock which is just a fifteen minute drive from Golant.

Cornwall is often described as the garden capital of the world, and there are plenty of Gardens to visit, particularly the magnificent Lost Gardens of Heligan which is just a few miles away. Even closer to the Old Sawmills, Cornwall’s major tourist attraction, The Eden project. The Eden project houses plants from all over the world in gigantic transparent domes, and is worth visiting for the spectacle alone. There’s much more than plants however, Hosting hundreads of different events all year round including the Eden Sessions – a series of one day music festivals held every summer.
